Growth Spiral In development
A test score tells you how a student did on one day. Growth Spiral is meant to show how each student is moving on each skill across a term.
Who did what. I designed the pipeline and direct the work. Claude writes the code. The project is still being built, and I will update this page when it is finished.
How it works
- I photograph completed student work.
- The photos go to a Claude project that grades and scores the work and sorts what it finds by skill.
- Results are recorded in a Google Sheet, tracked by student and skill over time.
Students are identified by the informal English nicknames they use in school, not by legal names.
Connecting to Writing Helper
Writing Helper is a separate conversational project. I state a feedback goal, usually guidance on a second draft, paste in a student essay, and it returns feedback or a rubric-based grade. It can also suggest several rubrics to choose from. Growth Spiral is being connected to Writing Helper.
A related tool that is already in use
For specific writing projects, I directed Claude to build an essay self-correction tool. It takes a photo of a student's rough draft and produces a worksheet that helps the student locate and fix their own errors. It does not hand back a corrected final draft, because the point is for the student to find the mistakes. It also scores essays against a rubric.
The concrete result: I used the rubric scores to rank essays and choose the top scorers for the school newspaper.
